Harry Styles | "Aperture"
Modern-day pop music messiah releases long-awaited new single!
From the tippy, I wanna address that “elephant in the room.” At age 64, I may very well be the world’s oldest living straight dude who “adores” Harry Styles. But with age (hopefully) comes wisdom. And with that wisdom comes my unique, keen ability to recognize certain things.
For starters, I recognize that Harry Styles IS the modern-day pop music messiah. Mic drop! Truth be told, I’ve even traveled the country over the years, catching a good many of his live concert performances. Which is how I know that there’s rarely ever anyone in the men’s rooms at any time during any Harry Styles show. LOL! (Read my official 2021 “Love on Tour” concert review HERE.)
I also recognize that it’s been a very long time since his last record, Harry’s House, arrived nearly FOUR YEARS ago. And I recognize that he hasn’t always dropped the biggest banger as the lead-off single from his previous three solo sets. But they are always “alluring.”
The Interweb has been all a-buzz since recent teaser clips began popping up, suggesting that Harry was ramping up to consume 2026. Then came confirmation of his new LP, Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally. hitting stores on March 6th. Then came some smatterings of upcoming concert dates. Then came the release of the lead-off single, “Aperture,” and its companion video. YESSS!
A songwriting collab between Harry and longtime producer Kid Harpoon, “Aperture” may have taken some fans by surprise. However, it seemed to be embraced, across the board, in very short order. As a decades-long nightclub DJ, I found the fresh-feeling electro-pop vibe to be quite reflective of the type of current records that I like to spin while in the booth. Although I’m not ready to place “Aperture” in my Top Five Harry playlist, it certainly has intensified my personal intrigue regarding the overall direction of the entire new record.
As for the companion video, I think it’s a gloriously brilliant, ridiculously absurd masterpiece, with a maturing Harry establishing himself further as an irresistible, big-screen, dramatic leading man.
In sum, bravo, Harry! See ya at The Garden!
